"I've Gone to Disney World"

As many of us settle down to watch the Super Bowl this evening, it’s important to remember that a certain exemplary player from the World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers or Arizona Cardinals will be declaring “I’m going to Disney World” after their victory. Before that takes place, Disney would like to remind us of the many champions from different sports that have already made this famous statement over the last 22 years: First Spot: Super Bowl XXI (Phil Simms, New York Giants) Number of Spots Since Inception: 39 Chronology of “I’m going to Disney World” Spots: 2008 Super Bowl XLII (Eli Manning, New York Giants) American Idol (David Cook) 2007 Super Bowl XLI (Tony Dungy and Dominic Rhodes, Indianapolis Colts) 2006 [...]

Inside the Experience

The Orlando Sentinel has just published a photo album with 20 fantastic pictures of the new American Idol Experience attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You can view the entire album by going HERE. Even though we provided you with plenty of photos from this show when I was at Walt Disney World earlier this month, I think these pictures are worth taking a good look at. Don’t forget to read the captions at the bottom of each photograph for more information.

Disney Parks Looking to Buyout Management

From the Orlando Sentinel: Walt Disney Co. said today it is offering buyouts to 600 executives in its domestic theme parks and resorts, including 313 managers at Disney World in Orlando, to reduce costs in the face of the ongoing nationwide recession. The 600 executives, all above the level of director, have until Feb. 6 to decide if they want to take the offered buyout. At that point, the company may consider layoffs as well. Disney did not say how many jobs it planned to eliminate. “Given the continued uncertainty of the economic environment, we must manage our business even more productively,” Leslie Goodman, executive vice president of worldwide public affairs in Disney’s parks and resorts division, said in a [...]

25 Years of Parades on the 25th

Walt Disney World is celebrating 25 years of the Christmas Day Parade this year and has released a small article about the milestone and this year’s edition: In a way, you could say that it really all started back in 1950, when Walt Disney was welcomed into homes around the country on Christmas Day, appearing in his first-ever TV show. Or you could say it started in 1971, when Walt Disney World Resort opened its doors–and began a tradition of holiday season revelry. One way or another, Disney has been making the yuletide bright for a very long time! But this year marks a special anniversary, as the Walt Disney World Christmas Parade celebrates 25 years of telecasts. For a [...]

Love Conquers All

I usually try to keep my personal feelings off this site as much as possible, but I thought this was a good day to bend the rules a little bit. Truth be told, I’m an avid follower of the PGA Tour and make a point to watch every tournament on television, especially the majors and one smaller event that takes place annually at the place this site is all about, Walt Disney World. Well, when my favorite golfer won a tournament at the Vacation Kingdom yesterday, I knew I had to share my joy with all of you (even though I understand many of you will be far less excited than I with the following news): Davis Love III poses [...]
