WDWNT Reporter Dirk Wallen was all over the Walt Disney World Resort this weekend, visiting Downtown Disney, the Magic Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. He took some great photos on his trip and has them to share with us in this photo report: Looks like the Earful Tower is being painted or repaired At the Magic Kingdom the Bakery has been out from behind tarps for a while now The old Swan Boat dock is getting refurbished at the moment Work continues on Princess Fairytale Hall The Castle Walls are approaching completion We still can’t go on the second level of Village Haus to take photos… More grass being placed on the facade of Under the Sea: Journey of the [...]
Tom Corless’ 7/25-26/12 WDW Photo Report
I don’t often get to contribute with a photo report, but I took a short two day trip to Walt Disney World stopping at Epcot and the Magic Kingdom so I took some photos. Let’s take a look at a rare Tom Corless photo report: Work continues on the separate entrance to Turtle Talk One of the exhibits in the Turtle Talk pre-show is being fixed up Some work happening between the Refreshment Port and the Canada pavilion in World Showcase On to the Magic Kingdom, work continues on the former Skyway site, expected to soon be home to restrooms, a new pathway, and the Tangled meet and greet The castle walls are coming along nicely This section looks nearly [...]
Adam Roth’s 7/6/12 Epcot Photo Report
WDWNT Reporter Adam Roth visited Epcot on Friday and has some great photos to share with us from his trip: Phineas and Ferb topiary went up as part of the “Summer to Remember” I had no idea there was a summer promotion… I imagine guests had no idea either… Large patches of grass back after Flower and Garden clean-up The Test Track pizza truck and many props from the area are gone, but the tool sheds remain Test Track is still closed of course The signage from Inside Track is gone A pretty bare exterior right now I love the people checking out the car while Test Track All-Stars are performing… Looks liek they are surveying guests about their experience [...]
LED Lighting Enhancements Added to Journey Into Imagination with Figment
So, while we have been tweeting a lot over the last 10 days or so, Disney’s wonderful wifi at their resorts (Pop Century and Art of Animation) have kept us from posting some news. Apologies for the long gap without stories, but there is about to be a flood of news coming you way over the next week or so starting with this interesting tidbit. If you thought that Epcot may soon replace the Journey Into Imagination with Figment attraction (just now celebrating its tenth anniversary), you may be in for a surprise. Another significant investment in the ride has just been made, this time in the attraction lighting. A few months ago we showed you the installation of new [...]
Adam Roth’s 5/7/12 Epcot Mini-Update
WDWNT Reporter Adam Roth visited Epcot yesterday and has a quick update for us: Props and decorations slowly vanish from the exterior of Test Track The exterior queue is gone and various pieces are being thrown away… I know plenty of people who would want whatever you are throwing away… The old sign is history Innoventions just seems to get darker… Habit Heroes is completely walled-off from the world I assume this means there is work going on inside We hope…
Disney Releases New Concept Art & Details for Test Track
The new logo for Test Track presented by Chevrolet As you can see. they are changing the entire ride completely. The first image is clearly the hill climb. The top right looks to be the first break-test zone. The lower two pictures look like replacements for the environmental chambers. Ride icons? I assume these are categories you will be graded in after designing your vehicle. Yep, the Test Track you once knew is gone… If you look closely at tis image, you can see plenty of concept art for the Chevrolet Design Studio, where guests will design their SimCars Disney also released some new details: When complete, the reimagining of this attraction will allow guests to design their own custom [...]
Test Track All-Stars Light-Up Crowds While Test Track is Dark
While Test Track at Epcot is closed for a lengthy refurbishment, Disney has lined up a new entertainment act called the Test Track All-Stars. The group consists of mostly performers you would also find over at the Voices of Liberty (which is probably why it is such a talented group) now dressed as Chevrolet employees who are on their lunch break and like to sing in an a cappella group. They perform car-themed tunes such as “At The Carwash”, “Ease on Down the Road”, “See the U.S.A. in Your Chevrolet”, and “Grease Lightning”. The show looks rather enjoyable and we have heard nothing but solid reviews from anyone we have talked to about it. Judge for yourself:
Adam Roth’s 4/15/12 Epcot Photo Report
WDWNT Reporter Adam Roth visited Epcot to say goodbye to Test Track on Sunday and while he was there, he took plenty of newsworthy photos to share with us: Habit Heroes – Still closed Some portions of it are now behind a large curtain I don’t think so The original Test Track is now gone… They wasted no time removing the infamous Test Track pizza truck The Odyssey building is slowing getting a blue paint scheme All of the water features in Canada were off Shoes? Still can’t get used to this weird sandy patch in front of the Seas with Nemo and Friends You can see where the new pavement begins No visible progress from here of the rumored [...]
A Look Back at GM Test Track (1998-2012)
The original Test Track is now history, but the legacy of this amazing Epcot E-Ticket lives on in video captured by our own John Corigliano:
Concept Art Previews New Queue, Marquee, and Logo for Epcot’s Test Track
With GM Test Track closing at Epcot yesterday for a 5 month refurbishment, Walt Disney World wasted no time updating their website with concept art for Test Track presented by Chevrolet, schedule to open October 1, 2012: The concept art shows the familiar blue vehicles we have seen appearing at the attraction for the last several months, but also shows the logo on the new marquee that will appear outside of the building. Upon closer inspection, you can see a rendering of guests using touch screens to create their own “SimCar” in the Chevrolet Design Studio, the planned queue/pre-show portion of the updated attraction. We assume that the lounge with concept cars in it seen in the upper left corner [...]
